Sophist Radio Episode 62: Horny Bums and Generous Bums and the Difference Between the Two

James, Aaron, and Harold do not get a ton of chances to speak about video games as of late, so please enjoy this offering. In this episode you can expect some great bum stories and probably too much talk about Half-Life’s lore. Games are the main focus of the show as always, and the crew spends time talking about some of our recent favorites like 30 Flights of Loving and Asura's Wrath.

Sophist Radio #61: This Podcast Contains Evan

A cross country move, an awesome guest, and a drunk host. All of these factors play a special part in making this episode of Sophist Radio happen. Join Aaron, James, Harold, and special guest, GamesBeat’s Evan Killham, as they discuss proper apple tree care, Seattle, and first date loving. The foursome also have a healthy share of games to praise and pick apart, including Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior. All this, plus the delayed laughs, long awkward pauses, and poor audio quality you'll come to know and love from the first Sophist to happen over Skype!

Sophist Radio #60: Moist, Juicy, Wet, and Sloppy

This will either be the final or second-to-last time Harold, Aaron, and James are in the same room to talk about video games. Luckily for you, the listener, and our host there is plenty to talk about. The guys first do their best to tackle E3. If there was a big announcement that peaked the Sophist crews’ interest, it gets a mention. Once the guys close the book on video gaming’s Super Bowl, the chat shifts to Final Fantasy 6, Lollipop Chainsaw, and so much more. Also, stay tuned for a bonus Prometheus rant!

Sophist Radio #59: Soul Downloads and Sugar Rushes

On this week’s show the Sophist Crew wastes no time, diving into their video game habits of the last month. Fresh from PAX East, Aaron and Harold share stories of games such as Bit.Trip Runner 2, Orcs Must Die 2, and not-quite-a-sequel RockBand Blitz. Meanwhile, James spent his non-PAX time with Catherine, Mass Effect 3, and Fez. All that plus some audio healing and a podcast-shattering announcement!

Sophist Radio Episode 58: I'm The Bouldernaut, Bitch!

After a bit of a hiatus, Harold, James, and Aaron return with a tale so grand and epic, that it may make you sprint down to your local comic shop and demand they order the next installment. Unfortunately, the only place you will be able to hear such a tale is here on Sophist Radio. Fear not avid listeners, video games are still the main offering. The guys cover plenty, including Mass Effect 3 and Bastion, with a trip through Journey thrown in for good measure. Come for the birth of a new superhero team, but stay for the game chatter.

Sophist Radio Episode 57: American Pie Presents: Hobos Invade Beta House

This week the crew teams up to talk movies, great TV, and yes, videogames. Before they can begin to look ahead to 2012, the Sophists take the opportunity to look back on the year that was 2011. Harold, James, and Aaron do their best to cover every game they had the chance to play, wanted to play, and didn’t get the chance to play last year. They even find the time to crown a Game of the Year (Hint: it has something to do with Dragons). The show does cast an eye to the future as your hosts manage to take a small look into the unknown with a chat about the potential great titles of 2012.

Sophist Radio Episode #56: The Sad Tale of Tadpole McRibbit

With real-world distractions in the way, James, Aaron, and Harold haven't been able to find time for their podcasting chairs for awhile. But even with only a few games to chat about they're getting back in the game, and squeezing every drop of conversation out of their three games; The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Uncharted 3. Certainly big releases for the holiday season, and the guys find plenty to discuss about them. Plus hilarious tangents on movies, douchebags, and plenty more.

Sophist Radio Episode 55: Weird Sex Stuff

After a bit of technical delays, the Sophist Crew assembles to praise, critique, and outright tear down some of this Fall’s videogame offerings. The bad comes first as Harold and Aaron talk of the great disappointment that is the single player campaign of Battlefield 3. James takes some time to highlight a few games that may not normally get the spotlight in such a busy season; Rock of Ages, Drawn 3, and Keyboard Drumset Fucking Werewolf. In traditional Sophist fashion the guys wrap things up with a three-way lovefest over Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham City. Not all is well in Batmanville, though, as James brings up a troubling theme in this otherwise fantastic title.

Sophist Radio Episode 53: The King of Jersey City

In their continuing efforts to provide you with the best in video-game podcasting, The Sophists again pick up their headsets and beers to gather around the proverbial Internet camp fire and regale you with tales of video-game conquest. James shares his experiences with Vanessa Saint-Pierre Dellacroix and Her Nightmare. Also, he does his best to talk about The Stanley Parable. Not to be outdone, Aaron dives deep into the world of the RTS to praise Frozen Synapse. Harold has to eat a little crow...actually, Harold has to eat a whole plate of crow as he returns to heap some acclaim on Catherine. All that plus a chance meeting with a king.

Sophist Radio Episode 53: I Was Just Cleanin' it, Dad!

This week’s show can be summed up in two words: Embarrassment and Frustration. The embarrassment comes into play as Harold, James, and Aaron share tales of being caught at their most vulnerable by their respective parents. The frustration comes into the forefront as Harold informs the guys of his short and frustrating time spent with Catherine. All is not doom and gloom as the guys do actually have some love for games such as Ubisoft's Outland. The crew wraps things up with a pretty thorough break down of their likes and dislikes of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Sophist Radio Episode 52: Silver Fox with a Box

With the impending onslaught of Fall releases, the crew spends this week shining the spotlight on off-the-radar games again. James heads into the way-back machine to share his short lived adventure with Planescape Torment. We're more kinde to Krystian Majewski's Trauma and Ignition Entertainment’s character action game El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. Also on the show, the final Summer of Arcade game -- as far as Sophist is concerned -- Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. Things wrap up with a look to the Fall and an attempt at figuring out which titles will succeed and which will fail to meet expectations.

Sophist Radio Episode 51: I Look to the Sky With My Mouth Open Wide

This week the guys push the boundaries of podcast title length, and acceptable conversation for children's programming. Before things get too awkward, James and Aaron hop in to provide commentary on a couple of games from this year’s Summer of Arcade; Bastion and From Dust. The crew continues to shy away from most of the major new releases, as James shines the spotlight on a small game called Recettear: An Item Shop Tale. Finally, they wrap things up by debating the potential effects of Diablo 3’s plans to use real money in their auction houses.

Sophist Radio Episode 50: Gary the Triple Pimp

It’s a CELEBRATION!...kinda. After 49 episodes, many laughs, some sweat, and thousands of bottles of beers, The Spohist crew convenes again to mark a very important occasion...a pimp’s birthday. With the important things out of the way, talk of video games power the engine that is Sophist Radio, and this week’s show features such heavy hitters as; Octodad, Man vs. Wild, Kill Team and Resistance 2. Okay, maybe these games won't be burning up the sales charts anytime soon, but they provide the fodder for conversation this week. Lastly it wouldn't be a a proper show without talk of the one game that has been on the minds of the Sophists since even before it ever existed: Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Sophist Radio Episode 49: 4th of the Itis

The Sophist gang celebrates America’s Birthday in the best way possible. Harold, James, and Aaron kick things off with a recent hit for Sony’s PS3: inFamous 2. Okay that may not be the most American of platforms, but it was developed by the fine people at Bellevue, Washington-based Sucker Punch studios. Spoilers abound as the crew shares their feelings about everything the inFamous universe has to offer. Shadows of the Damned, a Japanese yet American published title is next up on the Sophist Radio chopping block. The guys then close things out with the most American title in the bunch: LA Noire. Despite being developed by Austria -based Team Bondi, this game has all the things that make America great; sex, violence, and poor driving.

Sophist Radio Episode 48: Mo Jizz Mo Problems

This week the guys merge together and roll out like some sort of video-game-podcasting machine. In keeping with traditional Sophist Radio tropes, the guys kick things off with a discussion of the music career of the band Bush before moving on to the video games they've been playing. It is a nice mix of old and new games this week; or in the case of Duke Nukem Forever a new-old-game? Aaron and Harold share their thoughts on inFamous and inFamous 2, respectively, and James relates his adventures in Crysis 2. The crew then does its best to sum up gaming's SuperBowl: E3.

Sophist Radio Episode 45: Pterodactyl Eunuchs

With Spring in the air and allergies hitting two-thirds of the staff, the Sophist crew powers through another pun-packed episode. What begins as a debate about the merits of Lady Gaga's hit song "Born this Way," gives way into some honest-to-goodness video game discussions. Harold carries the lion's share of games played this week. He shares his thoughts on his completion of Killzone 3 and the demo of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, then James and Aaron jump in to ask about Harold's newly acquired 3DS. Is it the future in your hand or is it just another Nintendo fad? The guys wrap things up by attempting to figure out why "bad games" are still being released.

Sophist Radio Episode 44: Whiskey Butt

This week the Sophist crew comes to you to talk about a very important topic: The career of rapper, dancer, actor, and overall musical genius, Mark Althavean Andrews. You know him better by his stage name: Sisqó. What does he have to do with the wonderful world of video games? Nothing. The guys spend considerable time getting everyone up to speed on some of Sisqó's greatest hits, then they move onto some tried and true game talk. Portal 2 gets thoroughly discussed, almost to the point of spoilage, but the guys stop and move onto another "exciting" new game: Gemcraft Labyrinth. Things close out with the Sophist Squad tackling Nintendo's rumored Wii successor. All that and some truly disturbing stories of beer consumption.

Sophist Radio Episode 43: Shebadow!!!!!!!!!!

In this episode Harold, James, and Aaron spend a good bit of the show struggling to talk about video games. If you came here looking for a new catch phrase to impress all your friends, we have it. If you wanted to hear another rant about the layout of Nintendo's download store, you are again in the right place. Finally, though, the guys do settle down into some tried and true game discussion. The 3rd Birthday, Okamiden, and Trajectile share some time in the spotlight. Then things move into a pretty lengthy chat about the recent issues concerning hacker Geohot and system jailbreaking.

Sophist Radio Episode 41: You Are the Wind Beneath My Balls

After what seemed like an eternity, the game that James and Aaron have not-so-secretly been pining for is here: Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The love fest is in full swing as they do the type of fanboy gushing best reserved for nerds talking to their favorite voice actor at an amine convention. Harold manages to fall in love with a game as well, but his crush doesn't garner as much approval as he would like. Still, the good times he's had with Metroid: Other M cannot be denied. Plus, discussions of the Dragon Age 2 demo, The Old Republic, and Hazard: Journey of Life, all packed into a neat and sexy package, kinda like Bette Midler.

Sophist Radio Episode 40: What's a Kim Kardashian?

The Sophist crew kicks off its fortieth episode much like all the rest -- with some of the best video game discussion this side of the Internet. Call it "Winter Blues" or "Big-Title Fatigue", but something is zapping the energy of the show this week as the guys share their opinions on a few titles such as: Deadspace 2, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom. Harold lets it slip that he is playing Mass Effect 2, which leads into a small chat on his feelings about the game (Spoiler Alert: He really likes it). The guys do rebound a bit, and manage to talk about some happy things. Namely death. Harold, Aaron, and James give their thoughts on the apparent death of the music-game genre. Maybe the guys should call this episode the bummercast...or not.
