The third episode of Life is Strange is an action-packed romp full of explosives, drugs, and guns. Sort of. It definitely inspires this playlist of punk, rap, and eighties pop, though.

Shuffled #48: 2012 in Review

Every other Wednesday either Matt or Alex C-Y share their love of music in an assortment of ways. Shuffled is a podcast whose format is as varied as their tastes in music, so hopefully you won't ever be bored and everyone can find something to enjoy.

"A big year in music" doesn't even begin to describe 2012. Whatever genre you find pleasing, nearly every facet of the music scene had something new to it. Like pop music? There was Kishi Bashi who road a summer pop wave off of SXSW and into Windows 8's heart, or were you more in mind of the Cult of Gangam Style? Did Killer Mike's political rap make your blood boil, or did you prefer the ghastly beats of The Gasslamp Killer?

There was so much to cover that I had to enlist the help of of Shuffled's other host, Alex Cronk-Young. This is by far the longest edition of the show in it's two years of running, and we don't plan on slowing down in 2013!!!*

2011 was an amazing year for music. I thought it only fitting -- given I'd wrapped-up all the music releases for each month of the year -- that I also put together something for the entire year. Not necessarily the "best" music of the year, but this podcast is a collection of favorite releases of the year. Not just my favorites; I also invited on plenty of special guests. Cerebral Pop staffers Chris Whitehead, Alex Martin, Matt Giguere, Cameron Pershall, Roberto Flores, Luis Alvarez, and Tom Heistuman all shared their favorites, as well as fellow podcaster Tyler Abstract, past Shuffled guest Brian Shirk, and one of my "in real life" friends Josh Meyers. Oh, and listener Suriel Vazquez emailed in his pick -- All amongst my own choices. Yes, it's a music-packed podcast to celebrate a music-packed year. Wave goodbye to 2011 along with us.

I know, I'm late again, but can you blame me? There was a ton of new music released this September! I dug through 26 albums and picked out a sample track from each. You won't find any long diatribes on a particular artist. You won't find any guests discussing a new release. Instead, it's jam packed with music from start to finish. 110 minutes long and only about 7 of them have my voice. Pack yourself in and turn the volume up, because September had a lot to offer.
