Heavy enough for ya? This week (or month as it has been awhile [surprise!]) we bring you a very special edition of the Shuffled podcast! Special for two reasons. First, it was the inaugural run of our first live broadcast of the show! And second, to ring in the occasion, we did an all metal playlist! 4 Bands That Should Dip Their Toes in a New Medium

With The Aquabats' show premiering, and the mc chris cartoon on its way, it seems like musicians are stepping out of their normal routine and dabbling in new forms of media. That might not work for every band, but there are plenty who could benefit from trying out some new ways to entertain. Here are four bands that I'd love to see put out something other than music.

GWAR -- TV Show or Video Game

You knew they'd be on my list. GWAR has quite a storied history of sometimes completely nonsensical mythology behind them. Whether it be from their live shows, countless DVDs, or actual music, they're always telling wacky tales that beg to be made into an equally goofy, adult-oriented cartoon. Just look at the popularity of Metalocalypse for proof that this show could work.

I'd love to tune in weekly to see who GWAR was doing battle with next. Maybe they're feeding the human filth to The World Maggot; Maybe they've gone to space in search of Cardinal Syn; Or perhaps they'd just be sitting around their Antarctican fortress snorting crack. No matter what, it'd have to be entertaining.

If that doesn't work, make it a video game. Brutal Legend is your example there, just, leave out the RTS elements. Apparently people don't like that stuff.

November Music Wrap-Up

The Music Wrap-Up is a monthly summary of my favorite and other notable new releases. Having trouble keeping up with all the new music? Need some music suggestions? Then the Music Wrap-Up is for you. And please support these musicians as that's the reason I'm featuring them in the first place.

As we approach the end of the year, we grow ever closer to the always awesome spring music-release season. But until then there's still some good stuff coming out. From well worn but classic performers like Elvis Costello and Brian Eno, to pop punk mainstays like The Queers and Smoke or Fire. It's a slim month, and December will be even slimmer, but you should probably be spending it with family, right? For now, though, sneak away for a little bit and enjoy the music of November.

GWAR: Fostering a Positive and Friendly Fanbase?

As Sawborg Destructo jammed Bonesnapper's own sword into his chest, the creature began spewing green blood out into the audience. The stream seemed to be concentrated directly on my face for what seemed like an unnaturally long amount of time. Once it had moved on, I realized my contact was off to the side of my eye so I stumbled to the bathroom.

My once white shirt was completely green and red, along with my beard, hair, and eyebrows. A preppy-looking guy told me I was looking good, and I joked that it was the new fashion trend. I forced the dried, red-dyed contact lens back to the center of my eye in the mirror and as I turned the preppy guy remarked, "You better get back out there, man!" I walked back into the crowd, and ran through the center of the mosh pit, up to the front; Ready to endure even more.

Shuffled: Reagan Edition

Every other Wednesday I hit the shuffle button on my 90 gigabytes of music and post the results. I might have to justify some of the stuff in my library, but hopefully it will help inform you of new music -- Or at least be entertaining.

Sometimes I wonder if iTunes' shuffle mode knows more than it is letting on. Maybe it is really a sentient robot programmed to provide an enjoyable mix of tunes. I mean, how else can you explain the fact that I ended up with a Reagan themed song to begin and end this Shuffled? Well, technically the first one is a Reagan themed band, not song. Also, I more frequently end up with the middle of an audiobook thrown into my mix, so maybe there aren't any sentient robots. Still, Reagan theme is crazy!
