Dedicated gamer edits all three Uncharted games into movies

If you're familiar with the Uncharted series you've no doubt heard them described as extremely movie-like, Sony even had a commercial that said it. Well, Reddit user morphinapg heard it too, and decided to actually make them into movies. So he got to work playing the games, capturing the video, and editing out unnecessary gameplay to make it as much like a Hollywood blockbuster as possible.

Apparently he isn't the first to do this sort of thing, as the comments section is rife with people linking to other examples like Shenmue, Heavy Rain, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Metal Gear Solid 3 via a bonus feature on the special edition of the game. It probably says something about the state of video games as a medium that so many of them can be made into effective movies by just cutting out the extraneous gameplay between cut-scenes, but I won't get into that now.

If you played the Uncharted games and want a refresher course without the effort of pushing buttons, here you go. Or if you haven't played the games and would rather just watch them from the very start, that's all up to you, man. Either way, these are pretty awesome. Hit the jump to watch any of the three. Oh, spoilers. Obviously.

Unoriginal Soundtracks Podcast: Heavy Rain Edition

Every other Wednesday I share a playlist of songs tangentially related to a single game or series. Songs about alien sex for Mass Effect, songs about world leaders for Civilization, and so on. Searching for random terms on Spotify is a great way to discover new music and rediscover old classics.

Heavy Rain is one of the best flawed games of the last five years. It makes you feel helpless with an X button, but uses that same X button to absurdly repeat your son's name; it adapts its story so there is no failure, but that story is a sub-standard murder mystery; its characters are some of the most emotive on a console, but they sound like they belong in another country.

Insufficient Funds: Digital: A Love Story

Insufficient Funds is a weekly post in which we feature a free, or very close to it, piece of media that you can enjoy without overdrafting your bank account. So if you're low on funds, stay tuned to Cerebral Pop every Friday morning.

I don't usually stay up to date on the indie gaming scene, but every once in awhile a game is heralded enough to warrant my immediate attention. This was the case with Digital: A Love Story. Several people whose opinions I greatly respect listed it among their favorite games of the year, so I decided I should probably get around to playing it. After all, it's free to boot.

Digital is a pretty unique experience; it simulates the BBS world of 1988. If you don't know what a BBS (Bulletin Board System) is, don't worry, neither do I, really. I was three years old in 1988, but I've learned since then that they were a precursor to the Internet as we know it. Think of it like a messageboard that is hosted on your own computer and other people access it by actually dialing into your machine. Had I been old enough to understand that in 1988 I would probably rave about Digital's loving recreation of the world of BBSs.

Sophist Radio Episode 37: Lesbian Christmas

In this holiday-season-inspired episode, the Sophist crew: James, Harold, and Aaron, attempt to explain their feelings about Christmas. Is it really the most wonderful time of the year, or just an excuse for gifts and falsely nice actions. Those question and more are answered. This being a video game podcast and all, the guys also manage to squeeze in talk about Bit Trip Fate, Beat Hazard, Revenge of the Titans, Uplink, Enslaved, and Digital: A Love Story. To cap things off the Sophist Crew takes a stab at summing up 2010 in games. What games left a lasting impression and what games missed their marks? All that and more, in a podcast so popular that the one and only Doogie Howser stole a joke from it to use in front of millions of people.

Harold's Most Important Games of 2010

2010 was a very strange year in gaming, with the two high definition console makers (Sony and Microsoft) deciding to chase the motion control bandwagon as it speeds past hardcore gamers and right into the comfortable realm of soccer moms and old folks home. The selections of games available for the typical gamer were at an all time low.

I personally found myself digging deep into the bargain bins and Gamefly queue in order to find games that perked my interests. This year three games in particular strike a chord with me and I would like to highlight them here, in a little something I call “ Harold’s Most Important Games of 2010."
