Shuffled: Fast to Funky Edition

Every Wednesday I hit the shuffle button on my 90 gigabytes of music and post the results. I might have to justify some of the stuff in my library, but hopefully it will help inform you of new music -- Or at least be entertaining.

I'm a ravenous music fan, and I devour a lot of music that I like to help evangelize. I thought it would be easier to help share some of the 90+ gigabytes of music I've amassed if I did it completely at random. Honestly, a lot of stuff gets forgotten in there, so I might discover just as much new music as you do! Though, this could also be thoroughly embarrassing for me.

In the first ever Shuffled, my tastes seem much heavier than they tend to actually be. Still, there is a good mix here; From punk, to (basically) metal, to post-rock, and rounding out with an dance remix of Nine Inch Nails -- A band I forgot I even had in my collection. Hit the jump for the tunes, and my explanations of the bands and why they're in my library to begin with.

#1 - The Nobodys - She Can't Say No

There's just something about The Nobodys that makes them irresistible to me. They have a knack for writing short and extremely catchy pop punk songs that finish well before they become too repetitive and always make you smirk a little. Just, don't expect poetry amongst the lyrics. I mean, CD titles like Greatasstits, Generation XXX, and Less Hits More Tits should have tipped you off on that.

#2 - Spit for Athena - Livestock

One of my favorite local bands. So much so that I had them play at my bachelor party. This song is a little heavier than their "normal" sound, but they usually have a handful of songs like this on each release. If you're going to start anywhere, I'd recommend Piss is Perfect.

#3 - Dog Fashion Disco - Albino Rhino

I came across Dog Fashion Disco partly because of Spit for Athena, actually. They were playing together, along with Tub Ring, so I went, mostly because of the two opener bands. Still, Dog Fashion Disco put on a great show, and they were basically just a heavier version of Tub Ring, so I got into them.

#4 - Explosions in the Sky - Welcome, Ghosts

Most of you probably know about Explosions in the Sky, being that they're one of the most popular post-rock bands around. It's always nice to put on one of their CDs and get lost in the music while you're doing something like cleaning or working.

#5 - Nine Inch Nails - Meet Your Master (The Faint Remix)

I forgot I even had such a big collection of Nine Inch Nails in my library. I had a brief Pretty Hate Machine period in high school, but otherwise I was never that big on them. Funny that I'm a lot bigger fan of The Faint, and this is the song that turned up on shuffle. They do a pretty awesome job of turning this song into a dance-able techno version.

Great first mix! I'll definitely be checking out Spit for Athena and Dog Fashion Disco.
