TBS Over Fox Any Day of the Week

It's no secret that I am a staunch supporter of Team CoCo. Hell, I wrote this article well before any of the Conan/Leno hubbub went down. But I haven't written anything since it all blew up in Conan's face, so I thought it was about time for me to weigh-in on the most recent development. TBS was the right choice.

I think everyone had gotten so used to the idea of Conan moving to Fox, that when it was recently announced he would be getting a show on TBS come November it was tough for people to actually grasp the idea. So let's take a step back and really analyze this whole situation.
First of all, TBS clearly wants a late night presence(as Kevin Smith would say)in a big bad way. For anyone who hasn't actually sat down and watched an episode of Lopez Tonight (and why would you have?), I'll sum it up with this: His set is RIDICULOUS! The entire thing is designed to look like a big outdoor amphitheater in a major city, and the crazy lazers and lights for such a boring comedian boggles the mind.

Not only that, but as I heard on the most recent at1UP podcast -- The one in which Mike Cruz and Greg Ford say nearly all of the thoughts that I have on this subject, but don't worry; I assure you I am not just stealing them. -- he has the same amount of cameras as a big budget sitcom. The thing is, George Lopez takes all of these elements and uses them to ask an Icelandic official, "How do you pronounce the name of that volcano that just blew up in your country?"

If TBS lets Lopez squander all of their money on such ridiculous things, then I can't wait to see how Conan puts it to use. And do you think for a second that Fox would have given him the same? Fox pulls the plug on any show the moment it lets loose a sneeze, and they have shown absolutely no prior interest in developing a late night presence. TBS has kept shows on the air long after they went into a coma (10 Items or Less, anyone?), and they clearly want to be able to compete with the late night giants.

Conan is their best chance at being able to do just that, and something tells me that is enough for them to let him do whatever he wants and they will just keep throwing more money at him. I can't wait until November to see what he does with it.
