Video Round-Up: Best of 2010 Edition, Part IV

Video Round-Up is a weekly post collecting an assortment of videos from around the web. Whether they be music videos, creative viral marketing, just plain cool, or just plain ridiculous, they will all be found on Video Round-Up.

Looking through a year's worth of Video Round-Ups is a nostalgic and exciting experience. Alex and I posted many topical videos, more than enough cat clips, plenty of excellent music, hilarious spoofs, art profiles, and so on. I may be one of the few who pays attention to the Round-Ups, and even I forgot many great videos embedded here in 2010. So, as you read the fourth installment of our Best Of Edition, remember that I left out many, many videos that are worth your time. Go back through the archives and enjoy! (Roman numerals for importance.)

Hans Zimmer's (or at least Zimmer-inspired) soundtrack to the excellent Inception really makes this video one of the best spoofs of 2010, if I'm to be honest. Also, I give these guys credit because they're not College Humor, Funny or Die, or Whitest Kids U Know, and made a TV-quality skit. It's funny every time I watch.

Alex re-posted all of the Cyriak videos (which I would have done), but this pick is in the same vein. It's great. The maddening atonal music of Cyriak's work is replaced by music so bubbly it makes Brody bounce across the moon. Is this nonsense worth your time? I don't know. Convincing a dissenter to like these kinds of videos is difficult. But you'd better like it.

Banksy took liberties making this Simpsons intro. Even with the series' classic overbites, doughy joints, and bulging eyes, I was hooked by the content and made sufficiently sad, and therefore shocked when it quickly returned back to its comedic, orchestral reality. Of course, Banksy isn't arguing that we need to feed Asian sweatshop unicorns, but Far East-low-wage labor is a real issue, and a reminder of that, jarringly fit into a cartoon's theme song, was memorable.

Last but not least (or most), Hauschka performs with a unique array of shit on his piano. And it sounds quite good. I respect his play style more than I like the song (although it isn't a bad song), and am inspired by his inventiveness. Creativity is largely an untapped facet of people's lives, and, like Banksy says in Exit Through the Gift Shop, we should all try to create art. This pianist has succeeded (which I know because NPR filmed this). It's a joy to watch. No wait, let me be more ridiculous: It is a triumph.
