Video Round-Up: The Magic Place Edition

Video Round-Up is a weekly post collecting an assortment of videos from around the web. Whether they be music videos, creative viral marketing, just plain cool, or just plain ridiculous, they will all be found on Video Round-Up.

I did not plan to post so much music this week, but a weird video to a beautiful Julianna Barwick song got me to explore a bit, recalling last season's radio hits, and the fantastic Hiromi Uehara. Plus, a neat, original short film (yes, it was from Vimeo.)

I listen to Julianna Barwick's The Magic Place far more than I expected to. And I believe I'll continue to hear it in the future. It's a beautiful, simple album mainly consisting of Barwick's own vocal loops. Here is the new video for the opener "Envelop," which in some ways is slow and unintelligible, like the song.

This video seems to have won--or been nominated for--a very lot of awards! I certainly enjoy the direction, and the story stays with you.

You might be asking why I'm pulling a song from the pop archives--because a lot can happen on the radio in six months. Well, the answer is because I think this is one of the better pop songs I've heard in recent times, and I wanted to embed that four-on-the-floor Euro-dance bass into Cerebral Pop. It feels great.

I'm sure I've mentioned Hiromi Uehara on the Round-Up before, one of the most exciting jazz pianists to watch (for me). I don't follow jazz piano like I used to, but Uehara's playing never disappoints. I love how she always gets so into the music that her hands can't move as fast as her heart, and she can't help but get out of her seat and start smashing the keys with her fists. (!!!)
